Value: $25 million This is an 8-storey 100,000 square foot addition to this world renowned independent medical research centre located in London, Ontario, on the campus of The University of Western Ontario. Two restricting factors impacting the design were first: the limits of available land for use by Robarts Research Institute; and second, the gauss lines generated by the existing 4.0T functional imaging magnet. The three major program/operational issues affecting the design were: one, developing informal settings outside labs (convergence space), two, creating world class, flexible laboratory spaces; three, producing a built form which is distinct and recognizable as the Robarts Research Institute.
