| The building is organized around a transparent spine to allow both visitors and users alike glimpses of all the activities. From the street one can look down onto the NHL size ice pad, turn and view the gymnasium, peer upward and see the weight training and aerobics areas, or further along the street see the leisure and lap pools. In addition, the building contains an indoor running track which circles above the ice pad and provides a special vantage point for activities on the ice surface. This facility has utilized a unique geothermal heating and cooling system which provides the total energy for this ice rink/recreation complex at tremendous operating cost savings. In addition, the swimming pool has been constructed using a stainless steel shell which reduces operating and maintenance costs.
